Learning partner Call: Aaron Cruikshank and Raul Copete
Learning Partner Call Summary
My learning
partner, Aaron Cruikshank, and I had a video call conversation, and I have to
say that it was very interesting. We share our points of view in trends on our
fields and trends in adult education.
Some of the topics
we discussed were for example the trend in robotics in the food industry or the
3D printing in food that is emerging very rapidly because of the cost of food.
Aaron brought up a topic that I did not know much about, this is the market
intelligence. Something that kept my attention because as he said, we must
improve and getter better in North America because we are way behind in compared
to other countries in the word. He explains how market intelligence is a game
changer in terms of predicting the future from a company point of view. For example,
where the market goes, trends, etc.
I brought up a
trend that I did not know until searching for the assignment, and that affect
directly the food industry but that most importantly affect all of us and the
world that we live in. Food waste is a huge thing, I can see it everyday, and
it is scary how in first world countries we waste so much food. There is a new
technology that hopefully sooner than later should be in every restaurant or
food business where a piece of equipment has a digital scale, a camara and a
software that monitor how much food and what kind is waste every day, giving
the business some date to analyzed and correct that waste.
We also talk about
trends in adult education and Aaron, and I agree that we have to be open to the
use of technology. Aaron mention that in one of the other universities where he
is taking some courses, they look at tool such as AI in a way that is better
understand them and learn how to use them than just ban them and ignore that
they are there.
We both agree on
the fact that micro credentials are very important for the future and how can
point a person into the right direction in their careers. We discuss that for
example some of the older programs offer in most universities are either to
long or to dense so by the time that a a student finish they need to take some
other diploma or certificate to apply for a specific job.
Overall, it was a very productive conversation, I learnt a
lot from Aaron and found him very knowledgeable not just on his field but also
on mine.
